The Cutting of the String
The Ilvari epic, as Aun told it on the north cliff in his last winter
Aun cut the string that held the sky to the islands, because he wanted to know how far the wind went. Here he tells it across fourteen of the constellations in The Second Sky, the invented sky of the Ilvari drawn on the real stars. The camera flies the real sky from figure to figure; a cord pays out from the pole, where Hesk sat with her spindle, through every figure he names.
